| Σχόλιο για τις αξίες | The quality and importance of the site result from the following elements: 1) The mountain Syringas is naturally protected because of the steep rocks and cliffs and the lack of roads that make the area difficult to access. 2) There are a lot of unexplored caves. 3) The site as a whole (and particularly the mountain Syringas) is very important for the avifauna and the mammals, due to its geomorphology and to the presence of many refuges. Mammals populations are in an excellent condition. 4) Its flora is rich in common and endemic species. The later are of great interest, as many of them are rare endemic species of the Aegean. Its fauna is also rich in local endemic ivertebrates. The snails Cernuella syrensis syrosina , Deroceras thersites and Idyla bicristata rothi are endemic species of the island of Syros. 5) Sand dunes are very important for the conservation of the flora. 6) The site can be considered as a typical phryganic ecosystem.OTHER IMPORTANT SPECIES IN 3.3 WITH MOTIVATION D:Animals: The reptiles Podarcis erhardii mykonensis and Lacerta trilineata are protected by the Greek Law (Presidential Decree 67/81), and are also considered species of Community interest (Directive 92/43/EEC, Annex IV). The species Vipera ammodytes and Rana ridibunda are considered species of Community interest (Directive 92/43/EEC, Annex IV). The species Cyrtodactylus kotschyi kotschyi is included in the Corine-biotopes checklist of threatened reptiles and is proteced by the Greek Law (Presidential Decree 67/81). The species Ablepharus kitaibellii is considered species of Community interest (Directive 92/43/EEC, Annex IV) and is included in the Corine-biotopes checklist of threatened reptiles. The species Natrix natrix is proteced by the Greek Law (Presidential Decree 67/81).The species Gonepteryx rhamni is protected by the Greek Law (Presidential Decree 67/81). The species Saturnia pyri is included in the IUCN list of threatened animals characterized as endangered.Plants: The species Dianthus arboreus is protected by the Greek Law (Presidential Decree 67/81). |
